Biloxi and the surrounding area could see sustained winds from 20 to 30 mph between noon and 10 p.m. as a vigorous spring storm is expected. City leaders have announced that non-emergency municipal offices are closing at 1 this afternoon.
The National Weather Service says wind gusts could be as high as 45 mph.
“We’re advising people that winds of this strength can bring down large limbs or trees and cause power outages,” said Biloxi Emergency Manager Nicholaus Geiser. “Safely store any lawn furniture, trash cans or other loose items that are in your yard. For those traveling, remember that winds of this magnitude can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.”
All meetings and activities planned at Biloxi municipal facilities today have been canceled or postponed at this writing.
Non-emergency municipal offices in Biloxi, incidentally, also will be closed Friday in observance of Good Friday.
