State sets a new daily coronavirus record

The state set another dubious record today, announcing the largest number of new coronavirus cases since counting began.

A total of 498 cases were identified in the past 24 hours, says the Mississippi Department of Health, following up on a weekend that saw 501 new cases over two days. Harrison County is also seeing an uptick two weeks after Memorial Day weekend: Seven newly identified cases in the past 24 hours, six on Saturday and seven on Sunday; 20 cases in three days.
