State of the City is Feb. 12; other news and notes

Mayor A.J. Holloway will present the annual State of the City address Monday, Feb. 12, during a Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce-sponsored luncheon at the Beau Rivage Resort & Casino.

The luncheon – with seats at $25 each or a reserved table of 10 for $300 – will begin at 11:30 a.m. For reservations, contact the Biloxi Bay chamber at 435-6149 or e-mail Chamber Director Susan Hunt at susan.hunt@biloxibaychamber.org.

Holloway is expected to outline the city’s post-Katrina recovery and provide a status report on ongoing recovery efforts.

Cable One also plans to air his address for its Biloxi subscribers on Tuesday, Feb. 13, at 8 and 10 a.m. and 8 and 10 p.m.

New videos offer glimpse of Katrina recovery

Potential visitors can get an online glimpse of what there is to see and do in Biloxi and south Mississippi, thanks to two new videos now on the City of Biloxi web site.

Host Erik Hastings of the firm Scripted Media Improv guides visitors on a humorous five-minute tour of south Mississippi in a video commissioned by the Tourism Division of the Mississippi Development Authority.

Hastings visits the Biloxi Shrimping Tour, Mary Mahoney’s Old French House Restaurant, Grand Bear Golf Course, Beau Rivage Resort & Casino and other south Mississippi attractions.

Also online is a 30-second video invitation that was created by the Mississippi Gulf Coast Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Mardi Gras reminders: The city sponsors a Mardi Gras Ball for children this evening at the Donal M. Snyder Sr. Community Center, with this evening’s rulers reigning over this weekend’s children’s Mardi Gras Walking Parade. For details on both events, click here.. Days of dedication: Mayor A.J. Holloway has proclaimed today as Clark Griffith Day in recognition of Griffith being named Outstanding Biloxian by the Biloxi Lions Club, and as Jean Hebert Day in honor of the city’s assistant manager of accounting, who retires today after 31 years of service.
