The Biloxi Town Green lives up to its name this weekend, with grillin’ and green galore.
St. Patrick’s Day festivities take place Saturday with a run, a grilling competition and a parade.
The Gulf Coast Running Club will kick off the day with the annual Hibernia Marching Society St. Patrick’s Day 5K and 1-mile Health Run/Walk in downtown Biloxi. The 1-mile begins at 9 a.m. followed by the 5K at 9:30 a.m., both beginning on Lameuse Street.
Then, over at the Biloxi Town Green, Biloxi Main Street will hold its annual Grillin’ on the Green from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. You’ll find free admission, live entertainment by Rhythm & Rain at 10 a.m., Blackwater Brass at noon, and Ty Taylor and the Kin Folk at 3 p.m. More than a hundred arts and craft vendors will be on hand, along with a children’s play area. The centerpiece, of course, is the barbecue competition. Teams of grillers will compete for cash prizes.
At 2 p.m., the Hibernia Marching Society St. Patrick’s Day Parade will begin. The parade will travel west on U.S. 90 from the Biloxi Yacht Club, turn north at Lameuse Street, west on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, onto Howard Avenue at Reynoir, and then north on Caillavet Street, ending a half-block east on Esters Boulevard. Reviewing stands are erected on Lameuse Street, across from City Hall, for paradegoers.

See ‘Miss Daisy’ and raptors this weekend
Community theater dynamo Ronnie Broussard opens his version of “Driving Miss Daisy” at Biloxi Little Theater tonight for a two-weekend run.
The curtain goes up tonight and Saturday at 8 o’clock, and Sunday at 2 p.m., with encores next weekend.
Elsewhere this weekend, representatives from Auburn University’s Southeastern Raptor Center will be at the Edgewater Mall with live birds of prey Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. near J.C. Penney.
“These raptors are educational ambassadors who make appearances to teach about birds and other conservation topics,” said Alyssa Rose of Edgewater Mall. “Handlers will exhibit the birds and teach mall guests about how these animals live and amazing facts about their survival. Hawks, owls, falcons, and eagles will be represented. This is a great photo opportunity and appropriate for the whole family.”
The first show will begin at 1 p.m. and the second show will begin around 2 p.m..

Train video: Just a few days after the second anniversary of the deadly train-bus colision at Main Street, the CSX railway was the scene of another collision, several blocks to the west. The driver of the vehicle escaped serious injury, but a video from the scene, featuring from Fire Chief Joe Boney, now has nearly 6,000 times. To see it now, click here.
