Spring Break weekend is here and the city is preparing for the throngs of visitors and cruisers expected in Biloxi to partake in the festivities.
Copies of the Spring Break Traffic Plan have been delivered to the Edgewater Mall, the Biloxi Visitors Center, and many city facilities, and nearly 6,000 traffic cones and barricades have been placed along U.S. 90 from I-110 west to Debuys Road in case roadways become gridlock and the full traffic plan is needed to keep traffic moving.
“We know there will be heavy traffic this weekend,” Biloxi Police Chief John Miller said. “Traffic is part of the event but try to enjoy yourself. There is no way from the amount of people that is expected to be here that traffic will not move slowly.
“Take your time. Be patient. Be patient with officers. They are doing their best to get the traffic through and don’t let yourself get upset over traffic issues.”
As for the activities, the Mississippi Coast Coliseum is Spring Break headquarters with the Twerk Fest 6 tonight beginning at 9 p.m. with $5 per vehicle parking fee and 5th Annual Gulf Coast Spring Fest 2K19 taking place Saturday evening. The Spring Fest will feature Kevin Gates, Yo Gotti, Moneybagg Yo, NBA Youngboy, Black Youngsta, Jacquees, Tokyo Jetz and more. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the event begins at 7:30 p.m. A $20 per vehicle parking fee will be charged and tickets, which are required, begin at $69.Â
Elsewhere this weekend: Several egg hunts are scheduled: The Biloxi Parks & Recreation Department’s annual Citywide Easter Extravaganza from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday and the 9th Annual Special Needs Egg Hunt from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, both at the Barbara Ferrill Softball Fields at Hiller Park; the Salvation Army Kroc Center Breakfast with Bunny on Saturday at the Kroc Center from 8:30 – 9:30 a.m.; and Hopping Easter Egg Hunt hosted by the Bethel Lutheran Church at the Pennzoil McManus Park begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Over at the casinos, Seether will rock out at the Hard Rock and Kevin & Caruso’s Magique Grand Illusions will entertain at the Beau Rivage.
