Sports fields close for maintenance

The daytime or international fields at the Popp’s Ferry Recreational Area will close Monday, Aug. 7 while the Biloxi Parks & Recreation Department crews conduct field maintenance.

The closure of the fields, located north of the pickleball fields, will remain in effect for about a month. This means all the fields at Popp’s Ferry Recreational Area will be closed.

The soccer fields north of the dog park closed in February because of vandalism to the electrical panels as well as the poor conditions of the lighting poles. The city has been looking into the best options for replacing the poles, wiring, and lighting at the fields as well as waiting for a couple of Osprey to vacate two damaged light poles.

Signs are being placed at the fields to notify the public of the closures. When the fields reopen, those interested in using the fields will need to contact the Biloxi Parks & Recreation office before playing on the fields.

The pickleball courts and dog park remains open to the public.
