Special Olympics, police to host car wash

Several Coast law enforcement agencies will come to the support of Special Olympics with a fund-raising car wash Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Stein Mart parking lot at Beauvoir and Pass roads in Biloxi.

Hot dogs and hamburgers will be sold during the car wash.

Biloxi Assistant Police Chief Rodney McGilvary, who is on the state Special Olympics board, said representatives of Coast law enforcement agencies and Keesler will be assisting at the car wash.

“We’ve also invited a number of Special Olympics families from along the Coast to come out and take part,” said McGilvary, who last month accepted an award for the city being named statewide Special Olympics sponsor of the year. “We think it’s going to be a great event and a fun time, and we’ll be raising money for an excellent cause.”

Police officers worldwide support Special Olympics on regular basis. In Mississippi, an annual Torch Run is held, ending at the state games at Keesler Air Force Base.
