The Biloxi Shrimp Bowl Committee has announced the application and selection procedures for the 2012 Shrimp Bowl Queen, and Friday is the deadline for applicants.
This is an opportunity for Biloxi High School females to make a significant contribution to their city, their school, and the historic shrimp industry, while demonstrating true southern hospitality. The winner will earn a $1,000 college scholarship and will represent the Biloxi community for one year.
The Biloxi Shrimp Bowl Queen candidates must be a Biloxi High School student entering her junior or senior year with a grade point average of at least 2.5. Applicants will not demonstrate a talent but must provide evidence of involvement and knowledge of the community and school via resume’, essay question(s) and references.
The selection process will consist of a thorough review of all application packets by judges selected from the community or state, from which semi-finalists will be selected. Five semi-finalists will be notified of their selection the last week in June. Interviews with the judges will be by appointment July 9-13 at Biloxi High School. The semi-finalists will be judged on their responses, poise, and presentation during the interview. All Shrimp Bowl semi-finalists must attend the City Council meeting on Aug. 7 at 1:30 p.m., where the 2012 Queen will be announced and crowned.
The Shrimp Bowl Queen will make special appearances and represent the Biloxi community at numerous events such as the ribbon cutting for the Sports Complex, the Shrimp Bowl parade, the Shrimp Bowl pep rally and the Shrimp Bowl game. The Queen will also help present the post-bowl game trophies.
