Shoemaker sweeps Ward 7 seat

David Shoemaker received the majority of the votes in the special election to fill the Ward 7 seat of the Biloxi City Council.

Shoemaker took the lead Tuesday night after the polls closed at the Woolmarket City Center. Shoemaker received 260 votes or nearly 70 percent of the 380 votes that were accepted. Kevin Kostmayer received 120 votes.

Once the absentee ballot deadline is met on March 5 with votes postmarked on or by election day, the Municipal Election Commission will certify the results and Shoemaker will officially be declared the new Ward 7 Biloxi City Council member.

Shoemaker is a lifelong Biloxi resident and a retired Biloxi Police Officer who has served on the Biloxi Civil Service Commission for the past five years.

The special election was called to fill the unexpired term of Nathan Barrett who resigned after being elected as the Harrison County Supervisor for District Five.
