Sherrill to return to Biloxi this evening

Former college football coach Jackie Sherrill — whom Mayor A.J. Holloway calls one of the most colorful people of Biloxi High School’s colorful football past — will be the featured speaker tonight for the inaugural membership meeting of the Big Red Athletic Foundation.

The fund-raising dinner begins at 6 o’clock at the Biloxi High School cafeteria. Less than 50 seats — at $40 per ticket — remain for the dinner. Those interested can either purchase them at the door or contact Pat Buchanan at 228.374.2999 or via: email.

Sherrill, a Biloxi High School product, played on two of Bear Bryant’s national championship teams before making his own mark in college coaching.

Also scheduled to speak will be Biloxi High Football coach John Shannon, and among those in the audience will be recent Biloxi High school standouts Damien Fletcher, Isaiah Canaan and Ronald Dupree.

The Big Red Athletic Foundation was formed with the vision of improving all athletic programs within the Biloxi School District in cooperation with the Biloxi High School Athletic Department. The goal is to provide each student athlete with a competitive advantage at the local, district, and state levels.

The foundation will work with the Athletic Department to promote excellence in athletics and create an environment that will encourage student athletes to compete at the highest level, affording each athlete the best opportunity to earn an athletic scholarship to schools of higher education.
