Saints returning to Biloxi with Hall of Famers

The New Orleans Saints are on the way to Biloxi again for the Saints Hall of Fame weekend, but this year fans will have a chance to meet players from the current lineup as well.

The Saints Hall of Fame Weekend returns to Biloxi June 9-10 with a golf tournament, a Kids Experience at MGM Park and an autograph and picture day at the Great Lawn in east Biloxi.

Biloxi and the Saints Hall of Fame have teamed up again for the second straight year to help raise funds for a new building to replace the temporary location placed in the Superdome after the original hall was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.

“Last year’s event in Biloxi was one of our biggest fundraisers and was a fantastic weekend for our Hall of Famers,” said Ken Trahan, executive director of the Saints Hall of Fame. “We anticipate an even better event this year with the commitment of the Saints to have players from the current roster join our Hall of Famers in Biloxi. This will be the first time the Saints have conducted a players caravan on the Coast in many years.”

The weekend kicks off at noon on Friday, June 9, with a scramble golf tournament at Grand Bear. Four-person teams will be joined by either a Hall of Famer or a current Saints player or coach. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams, and food and beverages will be provided on the course. The entry fee is $1,000 per team and is tax deductible. Checks should be made to: Biloxi Main Street, which will accept entries by phone at 228-435-6370. The field will be limited to the first 22 teams to sign up.

That night, Saints Hall of Famers will be special guests of the Biloxi Shuckers at the team’s game against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

The Kids Experience will be staged Saturday morning, June 10, from 8:30 to 11, at MGM Park. There will be two 60-minute sessions where children ages 6-17 will participate in individual challenges and undergo training drills with Saints representatives and Hall of Famers. The fee is $10 per child or $15 for two children. Spectator admission is $5. Tickets can be purchased at MGM Park Box Office beginning May 25.

The Saints Experience will be held from 4 to 6:30 Saturday afternoon on the Great Lawn south of Harrah’s. Current Saints players and Hall of Famers will be available for autographs and photos. Additionally, the Saints Super Bowl trophy from 2010 will be on hand, and guests will have the opportunity to bid on numerous team mementos in a silent auction. Tickets for the Saints Experience are $15 general admission and can also be purchased at MGM Park.
