Red Cross, FEMA open sites in east Biloxi

Residents in east Biloxi now have more storm-recovery assistance just around the corner.

The American Red Cross this morning set up a financial aid station at the Biloxi Community Center on Howard Avenue, where a host of volunteers also are continuing to provide free medical care, canned and dry food, prepared meals, infant supplies, bedding and a limited amount of clothing.

The Biloxi Community Center is open daily from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

FEMA, meantime, has established a portable office at Yankie Stadium, which is at Lee and Division streets, where the Salvation Army and partner agencies also are providing hundreds of free meals each day.

FEMA’s site at Yankie Stadium is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day, and offers disaster recovery information.

FEMA also operates a disaster recovery center at the Donal Snyder Community Center on Pass Road.

The city has had difficulty finding suitable east Biloxi locations for FEMA and the Red Cross because so many buildings in that part of the city were destroyed. (See the destruction of the eastern half of the peninsula, which includes Point Cadet, by clicking here.
