Public Works Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor

Responsible for the execution of the preventive maintenance program, troubleshooting mechanical problems, directing and evaluating the work of automotive mechanics involved in the repair, maintenance, and overhaul of all city vehicles and automotive equipment except Police and Fire. Performs minor maintenance such as oil changes, lubrication, and replacing tailpipes, batteries, and lights. Performs general tune-ups using appropriate testing equipment. Responsible for ensuring standby generators; repairing other pumping mechanisms. Overhaul motors; automotive electrical repair and tracing; rebuild propane system components, carburetors, vaporizer, regulators; brake system repairs, drum rotors, wheel cylinder, master cylinders, liners, adjustments; service all truck and equipment motors; check and repair charging systems; repair hydraulic systems; repair/rebuild cooling systems; minor small equipment repair.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from high school or GED equivalent; two (2) years of experience relating to automotive repair; or any equivalent combination of education, experience, and skills. Considerable knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the trade. Ability to locate and correct defects in automotive equipment. Skill in the use and care of hand and machine tools employed in automotive repair and maintenance work. Ability to understand and follow oral and/or written instructions; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors, and the public; Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions; Ability to drive and operate a variety of equipment.

Must have a valid state driver’s license or the ability to obtain one.
