Primary election day is April 1

The Republican and Democratic party primaries take place on Tuesday, April 1 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. in Biloxi.  

The mayor and all seven wards will have candidates on the ballot with Wards 5, 6, and 7 seeing incumbent candidates with no opposition.

Voters in the Republican primary will have choices for mayor and council races in Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4. Voters in the Democratic primary will have choices in the council races for Wards 1 and 2.

In the primary race for the mayor, incumbent Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich faces challenger Jordan N. Gollub, both Republican candidates.

In Ward 1, the Republican candidates are Edward “Ed” Gemmill, Wayne Gray, and Godfrey M. Meyer. The democratic candidate is Corey Christy. 

In Ward 2, incumbent Felix O. Gines faces no opposition in the Republican race. In the Democratic primary, candidates are Anthony L. Marshall and Tracey D. Smith.

In Ward 3, incumbent Dixie Newman faces Robert “Mike” Nail, Eric C. Nelson, and Ernest L. Ulrich Jr. in the Republican race. There is no Ward 3 Democratic nominee.

In Ward 4, incumbent Rodney McGilvary faces Jamie Creel in the Republican race. There is no Ward 4 Democratic nominee.

And, incumbent Republican candidates in Ward 5, Paul Tisdale, Ward 6, Kenny J. Glavan, and Ward 7, David Shoemaker are running unopposed.

For each race, if no candidate receives the majority of the votes in the primary election on April 1, the two candidates with the highest number of votes will advance to the runoff primary election on April 22.

Winners of the primaries will appear on the general election ballot on June 3 along with Independent and Liberation candidates.

Easter Extravaganza: The Biloxi Parks & Recreation Department’s annual Easter Extravaganza scheduled at the Woolmarket School Grounds on Saturday, March 29 has been postponed until Saturday, April 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to ages 11 and younger. Summer Playground: The City of Biloxi will begin registration for its Summer Playground Program on Saturday, March 29, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Woolmarket Elementary School on John Lee Road. Registration is for Biloxi residents in the Woolmarket community who wish to have their child participate in the summer camp program at the North Woolmarket School. Fees do apply.
