Previews of council meeting, weekend entertainment; other news and notes

The Biloxi City Council will hold two meetings Tuesday, a morning meeting to continue deliberations over the 2010 municipal budget and a regularly scheduled afternoon meeting.

Both meetings will be at City Hall and are open to the public.

At the morning meeting, which begins at 9:30 a.m., councilmembers are expected to discuss departmental budgets and insurance.

During the afternoon meeting, which begins at 1:30, Mayor A.J. Holloway will be seeking approval for construction contracts for the new visitors center north of the Biloxi Lighthouse and a new downtown library and civic center, which will be on Howard Avenue, across from the Biloxi Community Center. Also among the nearly two dozen agenda items are two previously tabled issues: a proposal in which the Humane Society of South Mississippi would undertake a feral cat neuter-and-release program in Biloxi, and a proposal to accept the donation of an historic house in downtown Biloxi and relocate it to the Rue Magnolia.
