“Precious Cargo,” the south Mississippi-filmed movie starring Bruce Willis, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Claire Forlani, has its Coast premiere Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Saenger Theater in downtown Biloxi.
Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. for this free event, and Island View Casino Resort will be providing refreshments. Tickets are not required for admission.
It’s a movie with Bruce Willis, so expect over-the-top action sequences with all the bells and whistles, and using the Mississippi Gulf Coast as a backdrop.
The storyline: After a botched heist, Eddie, a murderous crime boss, hunts down the seductive thief Karen who failed him. In order to win back Eddie’s trust, Karen recruits her ex-lover and premier thief Jack to steal a cargo of rare precious gems. But when the job goes down, allegiances are betrayed and lines are crossed as Jack, Karen, and Eddie face off in a fateful showdown.
Or the short version: A crime boss tries to make off with loot that belongs to another thief.

Canaan recognized as outstanding volunteer
Arlene Canaan, a retired Biloxi businesswoman and former City Councilmember who has made beautification a hallmark of public service, has been named the city’s Distinguished Volunteer of the Year.
The announcement was made during the city’s annual Volunteer Recognition Awards Thursday at the Biloxi Civic Center.
Canaan, who serves on the city’s Architectural and Historical Review Committee, is also an active board member with Biloxi Main Street, volunteering at many of the group’s events. She is a member of the Biloxi Lions Club and has served on the Harrison County Beautification Commission.
Canaan, a retired banker, advocated tree protection during her year-long stint on the Biloxi City Council and has continued to lobby the council on the issue. While serving as a City Council member from 2004 to 2005, she lobbied untiringly for beautification efforts and pushed for the “Keep Biloxi Beautiful” signs that now dot major city thoroughfares.
She has also worked on phone book recycling efforts and a myriad other environmental causes.
“Arlene, like so many of our volunteers, donates her most important asset, her time,” said Biloxi Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich. “The city would not be the great place that it is were it not for the dedication of people such as Arlene Canaan.”
