Planning OKs short-term rentals on Meaut Street

This week in community development, the Planning Commission voted to approve applications for a zoning change, and conditional use for Short Term Rental for properties located on Meaut Street between Kuhn Street and Sophie. The approval was to change the zoning of the property from RS-5 Residential Single Family, to RM-20 Medium Density Multi-Family Residential, which would allow short term rental as a conditional use. The approval recommendation will now go before the City Council for final consideration.

Also this week, the Development Review Committee approved a site plan application for Taco Sombrero Restaurant for the existing structure located at 2595 Pass Road.  At the City Council meeting on Tuesday, the council will hear the second reading on proposed changes to the Short Term Rental Ordinance. Under the changes, STR will be allowed in certain commercial zones (CB, RB, DT, WF) as a use permitted by right. It will continue to be allowed in RM-20 and RM-30 as a conditional use, but will not be allowed in single family zoned districts. During the past two weeks, the department issued 107 building permits with a construction valuation of $1.5 Million, and during the month of December, 21 permits were issued for new single family houses.
