Planning Commission eyes short-term rental issue

By Jerry Creel, Community Development Director

This week in community development, the Biloxi Planning Commission conducted a workshop to discuss possible options concerning Short Term Rentals. Among the options discussed, was the possibility of removing Short Term Rental from all property currently zoned residential. Under the current Land Development Ordinance, Short Term Rental is prohibited in districts zoned Single Family Residential. However, STR is allowed as a conditional use in property zoned Multi-Family Residential. A number of other options were discussed during the meeting. After the discussion, six residents addressed the commission. Three spoke in favor of STR, and three spoke in opposition. The workshop was continued to a future meeting with no official action taken by the commission.

Also this week, building permits were issued for the conversion of the Sheraton Four Points Hotel to the Doubletree brand. A build out permit was issued for Jimmy John’s Restaurant at Pass Road and Beauvoir, and a roof replacement permit was issued to the IP Casino Resort. Building permits were also issued for four new single family houses. A final Certificate of Occupancy was issued to the Sand Bar Daiquiri Bar and Grill in the Vieux Marche’, and temporary Certificates of Occupancy were issued for Beach Bums Restaurant on Beach Boulevard, Arbor Landing Apartments on Popp’s Ferry Road, and the new D.R. Horton Sales Office on Tommy Munro Drive.
