Parents: Summer camp registration is coming up

The city’s popular summer camp – officially known as the Summer Playground and Enrichment Program – is just around the corner, and Parks and Recreation leaders want to make sure parents are getting ready for registration.

Informational letters about the eight-week camp are being distributed through Biloxi Public Schools and at the Harrison County public schools in the Woolmarket area of Biloxi.

The city’s summer camp is open to children ages 5 to 11, and there’s a teen camp for those ages 12 to 14, and a sun camp for mentally and physically challenged children. This year, the camps — seven sites in all — will run weekdays from May 29 to either July 20 or 27. Campers are involved in a host of games, arts and crafts, and field trips. Lunch is included in the fee.

Last year, the city hosted about 550 campers. They visited such sites as the Gulf Islands Waterpark, the Coliseum’s summer fair, and the Biloxi Natatorium.

As with most programs offered by the city’s Parks and Recreation Department, Biloxi residents are given priority on registration and discounts on fees. Registration for Biloxi residents will be April 14 at the Snyder center, while registration for the Woolmarket and North Woolmarket sites will be April 21 at the Woolmarket Elementary Gym.
