East Biloxi infrastructure contractor Oscar Renda, fresh from paving a half-dozen neighborhood streets last week, is planning for a busy summer, with a host of milestones expected by June 1.
“We expect a round of paving across the project every month,” Oscar Renda Superintendent John Cowart says in this month’s video of progress, which was posted online today. “We expect good progress this summer,” Cowart added, “and we thank the citizens of Biloxi for their continued patience.”
Here’s the forecast for this summer, according to Cowart:
In April, crews will be paving Crawford, Keller, Lee and Bowen, all south of Division, and, by June 1, plans are to pave Division itself from Crawford to Penny Avenue, except for a portion of the roadway near Strangi where a box culvert is being stalled.
In fact, Cowart reports, all initial paving east of Lee Street should be completed by June 1.
On the west end of the project, crews are expected to have drainage and paving on Iroquois, Thelma and Graham by mid-May.
In the Porter Avenue area, over the next three to four weeks, crews are expected to begin installing new storm drains, a pre-cursor to paving, on all side streets of Porter: Cherokee, Columbus, Frank P. Corso, Balboa and Circle Park.
Meantime, on Division, now that the three deep underground water and sewer lines have been installed under the I-110 overpass, crews are expected to have the deep sewer lines installed all the way for Porter to the high point at Nichols Drive by mid-summer, to connect with deep sewer lines that will have been completed from Oak to Nichols by June 1.

There’s something fishy at the Biloxi Police Department
“Place your fish fry orders now to beat the rush,” Biloxi Police Lt. Christopher De Back says of Friday’s Special Olympics fish fry. “Orders usually pick up dramatically around the middle of the week.”
The 2017 Law Enforcement Torch Run Fish Fry, a benefit for the Mississippi Special Olympics, takes place Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the pumper hall at the Lopez-Quave Public Safety Center on Porter Avenue.
The menu includes a fish or hamburger plate with potato salad and baked beans for $8. Those interested can dine in or pick up orders by calling 228-435-6112. Delivery is available for orders of two or more plates.
“The Law Enforcement Torch Run has been a proud sponsor and fundraiser of the Special Olympics since 1981,” says De Back. “All of the proceeds raised by the Law Enforcement Torch Run go directly to the athletes, their programs and equipment. There are no administrative costs. We appreciate all of the support and donations to aid our athletes in reaching for the gold, and now we’re asking for help from the public.”
