The second annual Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk will take place on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 6 p.m., beginning at Fort Maurepas on Front Beach in Ocean Springs and ending at Margaritaville in Biloxi.
The announcement was made by the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation, established by Siller’s family in honor of the off-duty firefighter who ran with 60-plus pounds of his gear through a blocked-off Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the World Trade Center.
After attending the now-iconic Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk in New York, Biloxi Firefighter Justin Lopez and his wife Bridgett had hoped to bring an event of that caliber to their home state of Mississippi where it is a T2T tradition for military and first responders to participate in the event wearing their gear or uniform.
