City seeks nominations for Volunteer of the Year

Do you know someone that willingly helps out others in the community or an organization that always seems to eagerly participate in community activities? The City of Biloxi is asking you to nominate those individuals and organizations for the 35th annual Volunteer Recognition Ceremony.

Individuals who have volunteered in Biloxi will be recognized in the areas of community, health, arts and history, education, military, nonprofit organization, youth, sports, adult and youth groups, and a Distinguished Volunteer of the Year. Organizations and businesses also will be recognized for community service. 

Forms are available at the Downtown Services Office, 932 Howard Ave., at Biloxi City Hall, 140 Lameuse St., or online at biloxi.ms.us.  All forms must be complete and include a picture of the nominee performing service work.  The deadline for the nominations, which are to be turned into the Downtown Services office, is 5 p.m. on Friday, April 9.   

A recognition ceremony will be Tuesday, April 24 at 5:30 p.m. at the Biloxi Civic Center, 578 Howard Ave.  During the free ceremony, awards will be presented and all nominees will be recognized.

News and notes: Weekly review, law enforcement awards, Grillin’ on the Green

Law enforcement awards:  The Biloxi Bay Chamber will hold its annual Law Enforcement Awards Banquet on Friday at the IP.  The reception and cash bar begins at 5:30 p.m. and the program and dinner will be from 6 to 9 p.m.  Tickets are $50 a person.  For more information, contact the Biloxi Bay Chamber at 228-435-6149

Grillin on the Green:  Biloxi Main Street will host its annual Grillin’ on the Green on Saturday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Biloxi Town Green.  The affair includes arts and crafts vendors, live entertainment, the barbecue cook-off, and barbecue cook-off awards.  To view the flyer, click here.
