The playoff-bound Biloxi Shuckers have games this evening and Wednesday morning to wrap up a four-game homestand with Jackson (Tenn.) Generals, and Biloxi General Manager Hunter Reed says the Milwaukee Brewers Double-A affiliate is at the top of its game, on and off the field.
Last week, in a game on the eve of the Fourth of July, the Shuckers attracted 5,779 fans, the largest crowd of the season and the fifth largest attendance in the club’s three-year history.
“Attendance has been good, and fans have been able to witness a very talented team become the first in the Southern League to reach 50 wins this season with a 12-2 victory last night over the Jackson Generals,” Reed said. “Off the field, this season we’ve seen great success with our Double Play Thursdays, which are becoming a fan favorite, not to mention the new Fireworks Fridays and Super Saturdays. In just looking back at the previous month of June we saw a more than 15 percent increase in our average attendance over last June, so everything is trending in the right direction.”
Reed said Shuckers fans should remember to take advantage of ticket discounts: Fans can save $2 off every ticket by buying them before game day. The box office is open weekdays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and every gameday from 10 a.m. throughout the game. Buying in advance also means avoiding game-day lines at the box office.
Minor-league teams are usually about off-field promotions and affordable ticket prices, but Reed said the Shuckers onfield play is also contributing to tickets sales.
“The team already clinched a playoff berth by winning the South Division first half title,” he said, “and playoff tickets are on sale now for Sept. 5 and 6. It’s early in the second half of the season, but there is potential to host up to seven playoff games at MGM Park. Couple this great team with the exciting promotions and giveaways we still have planned, and it’s something you can’t miss.”
Games set for tonight, Wednesday
In a nod to their Milwaukee Breners connection, this evening the Shuckers present “Brew Crew Tuesday,” with $3 Miller Lite, $4 Brats and other discounts. The Brewers’ Snack Attack special includes fried green tomatoes, onion rings, French fries, and, of course, Wisconsin cheese curds. Brewers prizes will be offered throughout the game through social media trivia games. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. for a 6:35 p.m. first pitch.
On Wednesday, it’s “Summer Camp Day & Lunch Break Special.” It’s a morning game, so fans are encouraged to stop in for lunch. For $10, Shuckers fans can get one game ticket in the Community Bank Terrace, paired with a hot dog, chips and a drink. Gates open at 9:30 a.m. for a 10:35 a.m. first pitch.
