Here are the latest news and notes from Biloxi, as Tropical Storm Ida continues to churn in the Gulf:

Shelters open: Two Red Cross storms shelters have opened for those feeling especially vulnerable to the weather. The shelters, which opened this afternoon at 3 and will remain open until further notice, are at Woolmarket Community Center, 16320 Old Woolmarket Road; and West Harrison Community Center, 4670 Espy Road, Long Beach.

Schools open: Biloxi Public Schools chief Dr. Paul A. Tisdale expects Biloxi schools to be on their regular schedule Tuesday, but says that any changes would be announced through local media by 6 a.m. Tuesday.

Sports changes: A trio of Biloxi sports events scheduled have been canceled 9th Grade boys and girls basketball games scheduled for this evening have been canceled; Junior High boys and girls soccer at Bay St. Louis has been canceled; and the Girls Basketball Tournament scheduled to begin this evening at Biloxi High has been postponed until Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

Council meeting: The Biloxi City Council meets Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Community Development Department, which is in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Municipal Building, MLK Boulevard. To see the agenda for the meeting, click here.
