Mayor, council take the oaths of office

Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich, in an emotional oath of office and inauguration speech, was sworn in for the third time as Biloxi’s mayor, and oaths also were administered to members of the Biloxi City Council during a ceremony today at the Biloxi Civic Center.

“This is a very special moment for me,” Gilich said at the outset of his remarks, pausing to collect his emotions. “I consider myself blessed once again to be the Mayor of my hometown.”

Gilich was sworn in by Justice Court Judge Nick Patano, who also swore in Councilmembers Robert L. Deming III of Ward 4 and Nathan Barrett of Ward 7.

Also taking the oaths of office was Councilmembers George Lawrence of Ward 1, sworn in by Harrison County Supervisor Beverly Martin; Felix O. Gines of Ward 2, sworn in by County Court Judge Robin Alfred Midcalf; Dixie Newman of Ward 3, sworn in by Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain; Paul A. Tisdale of Ward 5, who was sworn in by his brother, Biloxi Municipal Court Judge William Tisdale; and Kenny Glavan of Ward 6, sworn in by Circuit Court Judge Randi P. Mueller.

A weekday audience of nearly 300 was on hand for the 51-minute ceremony, which also featured the new commander of the 81st Training Wing at Keesler, Col. William Hunter, who became commander days ago and was taking part in his first city event.

The entire program will air on BTV: Biloxi Television on Wednesday morning and evening, at 7, 8 and 9. It will also be available on YouTube on demand Wednesday mid-morning.
