Main Street Biloxi, the group charged with promoting downtown Biloxi, has been bragging about the increasing number and variety of downtown eateries, and director Bill Raymond says there’s a lot to brag about.
“The downtown area has always been known for great food, with longtime favorites like McElroy’s, the world-famous Mary Mahoney’s and Fisherman’s Harbor,” Raymond said, “but in recent years, the area has seen the addition of more dining options, with everything from fast food to upscale dining.”
Today, downtown Biloxi includes 26 restaurants or fast-food operations, including eight in Beau Rivage and two new restaurants that opened this month — Old Tyme Deli in the Vieux Marche’ (formerly Mr. B’s deli in Gulf Towers), and Golden Dragon Vietnamese & Chinese Cuisine at 615 Howard Ave. (just west of Biloxi Community Center).
Main Street Biloxi defines “downtown Biloxi” as areas south of the CSX railway and between Porter and Bellman.
Raymond pointed to Jazzeppi’s Restaurant and Martini Bar on Porter as starting the new phase of restaurants locating downtown. Another restaurant helping to anchor the west end of Howard Avenue is Burger-Burger, just around the corner on Howard is now opening on Friday nights with an expanded menu.
Main Street Biloxi plans to publish a brochure publicizing downtown restaurants. Here’s the list the group compiled:
