Library’s Local History section to close for two weeks

The Local History and Genealogy Department at the Biloxi Public Library is closing for two weeks to allow staff to conduct a catalog of items.

Beginning Monday, the library staff will conduct a fall cleaning, inventory and reorganization of its collections. The department will resume its normal Monday-through-Saturday hours on Monday, Nov. 20.

“Our goal is to better serve the public by identifying what we have and what we need,” Librarian Jane Shambra said.  “This is something that has not been done since Hurricane Katrina.”

The closing will not affect the overall library hours, only the hours for the Local History and Genealogy Department.

Reed Guice: The million-dollar man

OK, so all of the numbers are not in yet, but Biloxi First leaders believe the Reed Guice roast Thursday night at the IP Casino Resort & Spa is going to put the Biloxi foundation’s permanent endowments over the million-dollar mark.

Guice was the focus of attention during a fund-raising roast that included such roasters as former Saturday Night Live writer and Hollywood screenwriter David Sheffield, banker John Hairston, newspaper publisher Ricky Mathews, attorney Judy Guice and emcee Shorty Sneed. Guice ended the evening by performing in front of an orchestra.
