Fourth visit and 10th sculpture by Marlin Miller (Feb. 23-24, 2008)

Award-winning wood sculptor Marlin Miller created his 10th sculpture — a pod of dolphins — near the Katrina sculpture garden on Beach Boulevard during a two-day visit on Feb. 23-24. Miller, a Fort Walton Beach, Fla., artist who is donating his time for the project, said he originally planned a nest of owls in the dead oak tree, but since it was located near the sculpture garden of marine-related figures, he opted instead for “a family of dolphins with the mother and father near the base.” The latest sculpture brings the total number of sculpted dead trees on Beach Boulevard in Biloxi to 15. City crews will soon begin applying sealant to Miller’s previous creations, and the artist, known as “Mad Marlin,” is planning to create more works of art during return trips.
