IP looks at Fayard; DRC looks at downtown

By Jerry Creel, Community Development Director

This week in community development, the Development Review Committee met with representatives of the IP Casino resort to review plans to re-align the north end of Fayard Street at Bayview. This new alignment would reduce traffic confusion created by the offset of the existing intersection, with the access drive to IP. The application will involve a request to vacate and relocate the north end of Fayard Street.

In other actions, the DRC held their first review of the proposals for the conversion of the former Santa Maria Del Mar into a new luxury hotel, and for the reactivation of the master plan for City Place. The proposed (yet to be named) hotel will have 160 rooms, a swimming pool and other amenities. The project cost estimate is $22 million, and will create approximately 80 jobs. City Place will be a $24 million project and will create 117 extended stay hotel rooms, 36 apartment units, retail space, restaurants, and a bank.

Also this week, DRC reviewed a preliminary plat for another new single family subdivision, to be located on Hudson-Krohn  Road. The proposed development will contain 131 market rate single family lots. If approved, this proposed development along with the 86 lots reviewed last week, adds another 217 to our total of 1286 that are either under construction or under review.

Sales tax revenues for June exceeded  $1 million dollars for the third time this year at  $1,043,496.00. Year- to- date construction valuations are up $13 million, and YTD casino revenues are up $30.5 million.
