HUD ‘A-Team’ to be on hand for Friday session

Local developers, bankers and builders will have a chance Friday morning to get answers from a team of federal authorities led by HUD’s chief of field policy management and the agency’s southeastern director.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development is hoping for a good turnout during a informational session Friday from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Biloxi City Hall.

“HUD will have it’s A-Team here,” says Eddie Woodhouse of the federal agency. Among those attending the session will be Washington, D.C.-based Jo Baylor, HUD’s secretary for Field Policy Management; and HUD Southeast Regional Director Bob Young, who is also a former mayor of Augusta, Ga.

Holloway tells gaming commission of unprecedented potential

Mayor A.J. Holloway told the Mississippi Gaming Commission and a standing-room-only audience of gaming executives that a post-Katrina Biloxi has potential “that we never dreamed of before.”

The gaming commission, which met this morning at the Imperial Palace in Biloxi, invited Holloway to present a status report about Biloxi’s ongoing recovery efforts.

“We have the spirit and the drive to build a bigger and better Biloxi, and one that we can all be proud of,” Holloway said before updating day-to-day recovery efforts.

“Some people say that Biloxi and the Mississippi Gulf Coast didn’t really rebound from Camille until 1992, when casino gambling was legalized. I think we have potential that we never dreamed of before.”
