Mayor A.J. Holloway was greeted by a record crowd today for his annual State of the City address – a sold-out audience of 620 people – and the three-term mayor offered a few records of his own: the current widening work on Popp’s Ferry Road will be completed by this summer, four months ahead of its November deadline and a full year ahead of the original 24-month schedule.
During his 30-minute speech, which was met with a standing ovation, the mayor also reviewed recent accomplishments and previewed work on dozens of major projects throughout the city.
“My fellow citizens,” Holloway declared, “I’m here today to tell you that 2004 is going to be a ground-breaking year for Biloxi – in a literal and figurative sense.”
