Visitors to Hiller Park will soon have a new, larger playgrounds to enjoy.
Wednesday morning, members of the Ruiz Contracting Solutions group began dismantling the almost 30 year old playground equipment in preparation for a new accessible play system.
“I am beyond elated,” Parks and Recreation Director Cheryl Bell said. “We have received the playground equipment and with the help and coordination of Councilwoman Dixie Newman and Ruiz Contracting Solutions, the playground will be up and running sooner than we hoped.”
The new 105 x 51 foot playground area will be equipped with a large play system full of slides, crawl tubes, climbing areas, a swing set area with generation, toddler and belted swings and a toddler play area.
The $40,000 project was made possible through donations from the City of Biloxi, fund raising efforts by the Friends of Hiller Park and a $10,000 grant that the department applied for and received from the IP Casino.
Said Bell: “We expect the project to be completed on Saturday, June 25. We will start the morning with volunteers laying mulch and replacing the playground borders and conclude with a ribbon cutting at 2 p.m.”
