Works under the general guidance of the Director of Engineering. Coordinates database design, development, automation, and maintenance. Identifies and analyzes the needs of the department and other GIS users, and implements GIS functions to meet those needs. Under general direction, develops, implements, and maintains geographic information system applications for Public Works Projects and programs.  Supervises GIS Technicians, Engineering Technicians, and GPS surveyors. Assists in the development and implementation of procedures and policies to take advantage of computer technology—trains users in GIS applications and associated activities, as well as database management and general operations. Diagnose and “troubleshoot” problems experienced with the use of GIS and related software. Coordinating the acquisition of new spatial data and supervising the integration of these data into the organization’s GIS.

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a B.S. or B.A. with a major emphasis in geography, planning, cartography, computer science, or a related field, including coursework in GIS. Must be physically capable of moving about on construction work sites.

Must possess a valid Mississippi Driver’s License or have the ability to obtain one prior to employment.
