Gilich to introduce downtown bicycle officers

Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich on Tuesday will introduce to the Biloxi City Council the newest beat cops in the city: two bicycle-riding, shorts-clad officers who work the downtown area of the city.

The new pedal-powered officers, who actually began patrolling the downtown area on Friday, are to give an increased police presence to the growing volume of pedestrians in the downtown area.

Said Mayor Gilich: “We have thousands of hotel rooms in the downtown area, and with MGM Park and our downtown walking tours and the guided tours, we want these officers on hand to make sure everyone knows that we provide a safe, friendly and inviting environment in our downtown area.”

The Biloxi City Council meeting begins at 1:30 Tuesday afternoon at Biloxi City Hall.
