Game-Day Experience

Game Day is just around the corner, and the city, Main Steet Biloxi, Beau Rivage Resort & Casino and the Biloxi Shuckers are planning the Ultimate Game-Day Experience for you.

The first pitch is scheduled to be thrown out at 7:10 p.m. on Saturday, June 6 at MGM Park, but there’s an entire afternoon of activities a couple blocks away in the Vieux Marche.

Here’s everything you need to know

Game Day LogoThe Game-Day Experience begins at 12:45 p.m. in the Howard Avenue section of Vieux Marche, which will be transformed in a pedestrian mall. You’ll find baseball and softball batting cages, a radar gun to check pitch velocity, a whiffle ball home run derby contest, and a special area for children’s games. Beau Rivage Resort & Casino will be offering free popcorn and snow cones in the children’s area. See the map of the  Game-Day Experience.

Meet the team: Highlight of the afternoon will be at 12:45 p.m., when the public gets its first chance to meet the Shuckers players and coaches. Team members will be signing autographs.

The parade: At 1:50 p.m., the public will escort the Shuckers from the Game Day site in the Vieux Marche to MGM Park two blocks away.

The music: Emerging local band Crazy Uncle of Ocean Springs will take the stage at 3 p.m., and headliner Brass-A-Holics of New Orleans will follow at 4:30 p.m. Crazy Uncle is a blended ensemble of popular local talent long favored by live music enthusiasts across the Coast. Crazy Uncle will set the tone with its signature Rock/Funk style, heavy on improv. Brass-A-Holics will pick up the beat with its eight-member ensemble that is rapidly overtaking the New Orleans brass sound.

MGM Park:  The park will open to the public at 5 p.m.

Park and ride

Although the downtown area offers thousands of public parking spaces, the city is advising Game Day fans to use the free Coast Transit park-and-ride shuttle service, which links the downtown Biloxi Transit Center with all east Biloxi casino resorts. CTA will offer the free park-and-ride service along its Casino Hopper route from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. Saturday.  Park at your favorite casino resort and ride the free CTA shuttle service.  During peak hours, the CTA shuttle will stop at each casino resort every 20 minutes.

Street closures

Opening day at MGM Park will mean street closures to help pedestrians make their way from the Game Day Experience to MGM Park. The Vieux Marche portion of Howard Avenue – from Reynoir to Lameuse – will be closed all day Saturday. The portion of Howard from Caillavet to Reynoir will close to vehicles at 10:30 a.m., to accomodate the 1:45 p.m. team walk from the Vieux Marche to MGM Park. Caillavet Street south of Howard will be closed to southbound traffic at 12:30 p.m. for the team walk from the Vieux Marche to MGM Park; however, northbound traffic from U.S. 90 will be permitted on Caillavet. Roadways will remain closed until about 30 minutes after the end of the ball game. See the parking map.

Officers will be posted along U.S. 90 between Lameuse and Hopkins to assist with pedestrian traffic.
