Game Day Experience is just around the corner

The Milwaukee Brewers will face the Biloxi Shuckers — The Crew vs. The Future Crew — in an exhibition game at MGM Park on Saturday afternoon, and Main Street Biloxi is already looking to the opening of the Shuckers minor league baseball season next week.

On Saturday, MGM Park gates will open at 11 a.m., with a host of pre-game activities: Shuckers and Brewers batting practices, a Brewers autograph session, players introductions at 12:50 p.m. and the first pitch tossed out at 1:10 p.m. For details, and ticket info, click here.

Meantime, Main Street Biloxi will celebrate the return of the Biloxi Shuckers to MGM Park next week with a three-day fan-friendly event, trading off last year’s popular Game Day Experience.

The Shuckers open their Southern League Class AA 2016 season with a five-game series against the Chattanooga Lookouts. The first game is Thursday, April 7. To kick off the home- and season-opener, Main Street Biloxi will host a Tailgate Party from 4 p.m. to game time at 6:40. The event will be at Hopkins Blvd. and Howard Avenue under the I-110 overpass. There will be live music by Gram Rea, Ty Taylor and Brennan Roybal, some of your favorite food and beverages and a special appearance by the new team mascot.

On Friday, April 8, Main Street Biloxi will host a Taste of Downtown from 4-7 p.m. in the plaza area immediately north of the stadium. An eclectic menu of food items from Downtown Biloxi restaurants will be available.

On Saturday, organizers will again stage the Game Day Experience in the Vieux Marche area between Reynoir and Lameuse Streets on Howard Avenue. Shuckers players, coaches and owners will be introduced to the crowd and interact with fans. Special baseball-themed events like batting cages for boys and girls will also be offered, along with outstanding food and cold beverages. The team will be introduced starting at 11 a.m., and mingle with the fans until 1 p.m., at which time the crowd will escort the Shuckers to MGM Park. Fans will return to the Game Day Experience until game time for live music and special giveaways all afternoon, including game tickets and team merchandise.

Registration extended for Mississippi Senior Olympics

Those age 50 and older interested in competing in the April 6- May 22 Mississippi Senior Olympics have additional time to register.  The deadline, originally set for Friday, has been extended to Friday, April 15.

“The extension will help those participants who typically request paper registration and return the completed form,” said Senior Olympic Chairman Don Cross.  “There are those who don’t have internet service and need more time to register.”

Registration forms sent by mail must be post marked by April 15.  Registration is also available online.

This marks the second year for the Mississippi Senior Olympics to be held on the Gulf Coast and the first year for the Coast organization to have online registration.

The roster of events has also expanded this year, totaling 25.  This allows athletes to compete in all the events offered in the 2017 National Senior Games, which will be in Birmingham, Ala.

The Mississippi Senior Olympics originated in Oxford in 1984 and merged with the Mississippi Gulf Coast Senior Games in 2015 and moved their headquarters to Biloxi.
