Three-time Grammy winner Nathan Best, a former member of two-world renowned groups, The O’Jays and the Fairfield Four, will perform the National Anthem to open today’s Jackson State-Alcorn State baseball game at MGM Park. The first pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
Best is one of the few African-Americans to ever win Album of The Year at the Country Music Awards. His prize was for the soundtrack for the movie “Oh Brother Where Art Thou.” Best also has been inducted into two Hall of Fames: The Gospel Music and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame as a member of these two groups.
The J-State-vs.-Alcorn State game, which marks the second annual Urban American Coast Classic at MGM, will be prefaced by a 4 p.m. contest between Loyola and Tougaloo.
