National Fire Prevention Month is just around the corner and Biloxi firefighters are preparing to douse the public with fire safety tips.
Thanks to a recent contribution, the department will be able to provide even more fire prevention education.
On Monday, Jeff Chambers, a representative of FM Global, presented a $2,500 grant to the department.
“We are very appreciative of this award,” Fire Prevention Deputy Chief Vincent Payne said. “This will assist with fire prevention education materials that we distribute throughout the community.”
Materials include badge stickers, rulers, and fire hats for children, as well as oven mitts and pot holders for seniors.
“We will also use the grant for print materials that we can handout to citizens,” Fire Director Joe Boney said. “The materials will include information on such things like kitchen fires, what causes them and how to prevent them.”
The Biloxi Fire Department was awarded the grant in July after the completion of a three to four month selection process through the FM Global Fire Prevention Grant Program. Through the program, FM Global awards grants to fire departments that best demonstrate a need for funding, where dollars can have the most demonstrable impact on preventing fire, or mitigating the damage it can quickly cause.
