Children in Biloxi will have the chance to learn what it takes to be a firefighter this summer as the Biloxi Fire Department opens registration for its annual Fire Academy for Kids.
The academy is a free, five-day participatory camp for children ages 7 to 12 and will take place at the Biloxi Fire Department Training Center in Fire Station No. 7 located at 1656 Popp’s Ferry Road. This year, the program is scheduled for Monday, June 1 through Friday, June 5, and Monday, June 8 through Friday, June 12. Both sessions will take place from 8 a.m. to noon. The deadline to submit an application is Friday, April 24, by 5 p.m.
The sessions allow campers to learn life-safety skills in fire safety and first-aid through classroom activities, hands-on training, and homework. They are also introduced to firefighters up close and personal, the equipment they use, and the jobs they perform. Each day, snacks and a beverage will be provided to the children. Participation for both beginner and advanced camps is limited.
