Easter Bunny Hops to Town Green this weekend

Youngsters are invited to hop over to the Biloxi Town Green Saturday morning to see the Easter Bunny and enjoy Easter themed activities for the Biloxi Excel By 5 event, Hop the Trail to Bunnyland.

From 9 to 11:30 a.m., youngsters age five and younger can participate in fun hands-on activities such as tissue paper eggs and egg shakers. Parents are encouraged to bring their camera to take pictures with the Easter Bunny, who will be on hand from 9:15 to 10 a.m. and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Hop the Trail to Bunnyland is sponsored by Biloxi Excel By 5, the City of Biloxi, Biloxi Public Schools, IP Casino, and Elmer Chocolate.

Elsewhere this weekend: The 3rd Annual Biloxi Chamber Craft Beer Fest will take place at MGM Park and the annual Gulf Coast Winter Classic Horse Show completes its six week event at the Harrison County Fairgrounds.  Over at the casinos, Heather Land will perform at the Golden Nugget, Jackson Browne with Greg Lesiz, Alethea Mills and Chavonne Stewart will be at the IP, Sebastian Maniscalco will entertain at the Beau Rivage and The Wallflowers will be at the Hard Rock.

Registration now open for kids fire academy

The Biloxi Fire Department is now taking applications for youngsters to attend its hugely popular educational fire camp.

Registration for the Academy for Kids Camp is open weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fire Department Station No. 1 in the Lopez Quave Public Safety Center, 170 Porter Ave., and is available to the first 40 registrants in each the beginner and advance camps.   

The academy – a free, five-day participatory camp for children ages 7 to 12 – will take place at Fire Station No. 1, and at the nearby West End Hose Company No. 3 Fire Museum, 1046 Howard Ave. The beginner academy, open to those who have never attended the academy, will be from Monday, June 10 through Friday, June 14, and the advanced academy, open to those who have attended the academy in past years, will be Monday, June 17 through Friday, June 21 from 8 a.m. to noon.

The sessions allow campers to learn life-safety skills in fire safety and first-aid through classroom activities, hands-on training and homework. They also are introduced up close and personal to firefighters, the equipment they use, and the jobs they perform. Each day, snacks and a beverage will be provided to the children.

Crosswalk open: The pedestrian crosswalk located over U.S. 90 just west of Caillavet St. (between the Beau Rivage and Beau Rivage employee parking garage) has officially opened, just in time for the 2019 Biloxi Shuckers season.
