Development report: Planning Commission OKs street closings

By Jerry Creel, Community Development Director

This week in economic development, the Biloxi Planning Commission voted 8-6 to approved the application for the revised proposal of the IP Casino to vacate the northern end of Fayard and Anglada Streets at Bay View. The revised proposal removed the northern end of Reynoir Street from the application which will allow Reynoir to remain open all the way to Bay View. IP is proposing to construct a parking lot with landscaping, green spaces and 3 detention ponds. The existing trees on the property will remain. The Planning Commission’s decision serves as a recommendation to City Council who will have the final vote.

Also this week our department received the building plans for the new Lighthouse Park which will be built on the property at the northwest corner of Porter Avenue and Beach Blvd. The new Park will have a new parking lot area, a new pavilion, a  children’s play area and a walking trail.

Plans were also received this week for the new Gulf Coast Rescue Mission, renovations to the Coastal Family Health Center and new buildings for T & E Salvage. For the month of May 2014, our department issued 315 building permits for a total construction valuation of $5.6 million dollars. The monthly total for certificates of occupancy issued was 237.
