April 4: Development report: Baseball and another Waffle House

By Jerry Creel, Community Development Director

This week in economic development, the demolition and site work have begun for the new baseball stadium. The contractor has made a tremendous amount of progress removing trees, demolishing structures and removing paving materials.

Also, construction began this week in west Biloxi  for the new Waffle House Restaurant to be located on Beach Boulevard at the entrance to the Maison D’ Orleans Apartment complex. The build out for the new Memorial Clinic to be located in the C-Spire building on Walmart Drive also began this week.

Again, the  building plans for Saint Michael’s Parish Life Center and the Walmart  Neighborhood Market are approved and ready to go. We are simply waiting for the contractors to pull the building permits.

Next week, the Development Review  Committee has 4 cases on the agenda, which is available on our website.

Yesterday the Biloxi Planning Commission  voted to approve a zoning change for property located on Parker’s Circle to accommodate a new construction office. Their recommendation will now go before the city council for final consideration.  At the city council meeting this week, Biloxi Boardwalk announced that they have hired Yates Construction to complete the more than $200 million in  improvements proposed for the old Heinz Building.

During the Month of March, the department issued 228 building permits with a construction valuation of $6.6 million dollars.
