CSX this afternoon (5:15) provided this status report on upgrades and associated closings at its rail crossings Biloxi:
— DeBuys Road: scheduled to re-open this afternoon, around dusk.
— Eisenhower Drive: scheduled to re-open Wednesday afternoon.
— Iris Street: closed until Thursday afternoon, weather permitting.
— Veterans and Robenberg avenues: scheduled to close Wednesday, as early as 7 a.m. and scheduled to re-open Thursday afternoon.
— Oak Street: scheduled to close for several hours beginning Wednesday, as early as 7 a.m., for temporary repairs, and will re-open later Wednesday afternoon.
— Benachi and Bohn: closed Wednesday as early as 9 a.m. and re-open Thursday afternoon.
–Also closing as early as 9 a.m. on Wednesday: Magnolia, Delauney and Lameuse, with plans to re-open as many of these downtown crossings as possible by weekend.
CSX, which expects to have as many as 17 trains a day using its Gulf Coast line as early as Feb. 1, has an 80-worker team making repairs to two to three-mile stretches of track at a time in Biloxi this week. The nine-mile stretch of CSX rail in Biloxi, CSX points out, has 30 crossings.
The city, meantime, has asked CSX to help provide timely reports to the public regarding the status of temporary rail closures to help motorists plan alternate routes. The city has also asked that CSX try to avoid multiple rail closures where possible.
