Crews preparing Savarro, Migues parks for youth leagues

While renovations continue at the A.J. Holloway Sports Complex, the Biloxi Parks & Recreation Department is preparing two other city fields for youth baseball and softball play.

Registration is complete and play is set to begin later this month. With the upgrades taking place at the sports complex, the department is moving the leagues to Savarro and Todd Migues parks.

“It’s going to be a little different not being at the complex but we are going to do our best to provide a quality youth baseball and softball season,” Assistant Director Parks & Recreation James Lee said. “We are asking people participating to understand the logistics of this and enjoy the season.”

Softball games begin on March 25 and baseball games begin on April 8 with Savarro Park, 1353 Irish Hill Drive, and Todd Migues Park, 425 Parker Street, available for each league’s practice and games. Both parks have recently received fresh sod in the infield and new led field lights installation is scheduled for later this week.

Over at the sports complex, new synthetic turf is being installed on the softball fields. The installation is part of the $5.16 million project to provide much-needed upgrades to the 68-acre facility. Subsurface drainage and irrigation work has been completed as well as baseball and softball field prep work. Synthetic turf will also be added to the baseball fields. Once that work is complete, renovations will take place on the soccer and football fields.
