Council to meet Tuesday afternoon; other news and notes

The Biloxi City Council on Tuesday will be asked to approve the purchase of nearly a million dollars in radios and vehicles for the Police Department, and will consider measures that would allow short-term and long-term stays at Beau View, a west beach condominium.

The council’s meeting will begin at 1:30 p.m. at City Hall.

The initial Beau View measure would change zoning for the 10.7-acre west beach site from B-2 Community Business to B-3 Hospitality Business, which would allow short-term stays, and a second item would approve a conditional use to allow long-term stays — 30 days or more — as well as the construction of a parking garage.

The Police Department request involves 150 radios for $727,000, four Chevrolet Tahoes at $26,000 each, and three Ford pickup trucks for $76,000.

Elsewhere on the agenda, the council will be asked to approve a 20-unit condo project, Briarfield Beach Cottages Condominiums, and variances requested by Desporte and Sons Inc. to allow a new eatery, American Casserole Restaurant, to be located at the former site of Hugo’s restaurant on Division Street.
