Council approves budget amendment, will re-visit ECO contract

The Biloxi City Council, at a special meeting called this afternoon by Mayor A.J. Holloway, approved a budget amendment authorizing the mayor to spend almost a million dollars to operate the city’s water and sewer department through the end of the fiscal year.

A majority of councilmembers last week rejected a proposal for ECO Resources to continue to operate the bulk of the city’s water and sewer department, but on Monday some councilmembers said they might approve a one-year contract for ECO Resources to operate a portion of the water and sewer department during their regular meeting on Tuesday night at 6 at City Hall.

ECO’s current contract with the city expires tonight at midnight, but ECO representatives said Monday that they would stay on the job for a reasonable period during any transition.
