Tickets for the “Concert for the Coast” in MGM Park on Saturday, Aug. 29, featuring headliners Dr. John and Trombone Shorty, are now on sale at the MGM Park box office at Ticketmaster outlets.

The concert, sponsored by the City of Biloxi and Walmart, marks a number of milestones. It’s the first concert in the new stadium and it marks the 10th anniversary of recovery of Hurricane Katrina, which struck 10 years to the day of the concert.
Headlining the show are two signature New Orleans acts spanning generations: Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and six-time Grammy winner Dr. John and the Nite Trippers, and internationally emerging funk master Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue. Coast favorite and Hard Rock headliner Rosco Bandana will open the show at 6 p.m.
The concert will climax a weekend of Katrina anniversary events scheduled across the Mississippi Gulf Coast. On the morning of Aug. 29, at 9 a.m. MGM Park will host the city’s annual Katrina Memorial Observance, where national, state and local leaders and clergy members will remember those who perished in Katrina, but the evening affair will have more of a celebratory tone.

Football jamboree, Meet the Indians tonight
OK, sports fans, it’s your chance to get a sneak peek at the 2015 Indians football squad and to meet a host of other Indians athletes.
Biloxi will be hosting its annual football jamboree this evening, beginning at 6 o’clock, with a scrimmage against Poplarville, at the stadium on the Biloxi High School campus.
The junior varsity team will play two quarters beginning at 6 p.m., with the varsity contest, also two quarters, beginning around 7 p.m.
This is also Meet The Indians Night and you’ll have a chance to meet other teams throughout the evening. Among those scheduled to be introduced are the high school and junior high cheerleaders, dance squads, swim teams, volleyball teams and boys and girls cross country teams; the high school slow pitch softball squad; and the ninth grade football team.
Tickets for the event are $5.
Boomtown wrapping up RV park

This week in community development, Boomtown Casino is putting the finishing touches on their new recreational vehicle park located at the corner of Bay View Avenue and Main Street, This new park will have 50 RV sites complete with full utility hookups. A certificate of occupancy should be issued early next week.
Also this week, plans were submitted for Beau Rivage’ to renovate the High Limits area on the first floor of the Casino. The project cost is $1.2 Million. July 2015 totals were 226 building permits with a total construction valuation of $5.9 Million, and 58 certificates of occupancy issued.
Katrina books, DVDs now at bargain price
The City of Biloxi has cracked open the vault and the original award-winning “Biloxi & Katrina” photo album and DVD can be yours for $5 now, when you purchase the updated “Katrina +10” photo album and DVD for $20.
“Biloxi & Katrina” is a photo album and DVD package produced by the city a year after the storm and has sold thousands of copies. During its first year, it sold for $45 before retailing for $20.
“Biloxi & Katrina” features the original song “I Saw Heaven Cry Today,” along with storm vignettes from across the city, as well an interview with Mayor A.J. Holloway conducted at City Hall on the afternoon of Katrina.
The new “Katrina +10,” retailing for $20 and produced in conjunction with the Ohr-O’Keefe’s “Katrina +10” exhibition, is a 44-page photo album with a DVD that includes a 44-minute documentary and four bonus features: a Mississippi Public Broadcasting-produced feature on Marlin Miller and the Katrina sculptures, “the greatest speech ever given by A.J. Holloway,” the history of the Croatian-American Cultural Society, and an original song titled “The Biloxi Lighthouse.”
“Katrina +10” also features an original song, “I Want to Come Home,” by Coast artist Ronny Broussard.
The two books and two DVDs – a $40 value – are available together for $25 at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum of Art, the Biloxi Visitors Center, and the Point Cadet and Edgewater Mall locations of the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum.

Katrina +10 up next: The K10 multi-media exhibits are open daily at the Ohr-O’Keefe through Labor Day, and there are two special programs on Sunday: a 1:30 p.m. book reading by Cynthia Joyce, editor of the recently published anthology of Hurricane Katrina-related online writing, and at 3 p.m., “Pascagoula Day,” where Mayors Jim Blevins and Matthew Avara will recount how Pascagoula emerged from being 92 percent flooded in Hurricane Katrina to being recognized as having one of the nation’s fastest-growing economies.
