Gorenflo’s Cobia shootout takes place Saturday

Dozens of anglers will be in town this weekend for the annual Gorenflo’s Cobia Shootout taking place at Point Cadet Marina.

The 12-hour fishing event will begin Saturday with a flare gun start around 6 a.m. from the marina. Scales will open from 3 to 6 p.m. and monetary awards will be given for first, second and third place.

The shootout is a prelude to the 32nd Annual Cobia Tournament set for May 5 and 6 at the Point Cadet Marina.

“This is kind of a warm-up,” event organizer Danny Pitalo said.  “It allows everyone to take their boats out, and get in the mood for next weekend.”

Elsewhere this weekend: The Great American Clean Up Biloxi wraps up with an organized clean up from the Biloxi Visitors Center, Biloxi Parks and Recreation Department holds its annual Special Needs Prom at the Donal M. Snyder Sr. Community Center, Nativity B.V.M hosts its sixth annual Uncorked and Uncapped Wine and Beer Tasting at Sacred Heart Parish Life Center, and Nelly will perform at MGM Park.  Over at the casinos, Billy Idol will perform at the Beau Rivage and Piff the Magic Dragon will entertain at the IP.
