Coast chefs to gather at Civic Center event

Feeding the Gulf Coast will host the first-ever Mississippi Chef Challenge – A Challenge to End Hunger – on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Biloxi Civic Center.

The event is Feeding the Gulf Coast’s fundraiser, bringing together some of the area’s most celebrated chefs for an evening of food and drink, live music from Roman Street, and a vast silent auction, all in the name of ending hunger.

One in four children and one in six adults in our area struggle with hunger, organizers of the event say. Feeding the Gulf Coast works through member organizations and special programs to provide nutritious food to meet the challenge of feeding people who are hungry as a result of personal crisis or disaster.

At this event, Mississippi Gulf Coast chefs will compete in four categories: Best Soup, Best Appetizer, Best Entrée, and Best Dessert. One participant will win the People’s Choice Award for having the best dish of the night and will qualify to compete at the World Food Championships in Orange Beach, Ala.

Feeding the Gulf Coast is actively seeking sponsorship for this inaugural event. Sponsorships range from $10,000 Epicurean Sponsorship to $300 Community Sponsorship. Individual tickets are $60. All proceeds from the Mississippi Chef Challenge will be used to support our hunger-relief programs and provide meals to those in need throughout our 8-county Mississippi service area.
