The winners, who received cash prizes and Certificates of Achievement, were recognized during a City Council meeting on Tuesday. The contest, designed to promote interest in Mardi Gras traditions, is sponsored by the Biloxi Bay Chamber of Commerce, Gulf Coast Carnival Association and the city.

Fatima students dominate history drawing contest
Four students from Our Lady of Fatima were chosen as winners from more than 200 students who took part in an art contest that was part of Mississippi Coast History Week.
Those recognized Tuesday at City Hall were Alaina Olsen, William Meynardie, Madison Moak and Kaylee Lawrence.
Students from Grades 1 through 4 submitted drawings that included such topics as the Biloxi Lighthouse, seafood, explorers, the sand beach, parades, pelicans, water and boating.
TThe purpose of this annual event is to promote the awareness of the importance of our local history,” said Jane Shambra of the Biloxi Public Library, one of the sponsoring organizations. “It gives young people an opportunity to research and to learn various aspects of this area’s rich history and to express these concepts in their own artistic fashion.”
The contest is sponsored by the City of Biloxi, the Mississippi Coast Historical and Genealogical Society and the Biloxi Public Library.
